Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has overthrown Nana Amofa Twumasi II, the Ashanti region’s Mpasaaso No. 2 chief, on a number of charges, including his alleged involvement in illegal mining.
He is also accused of having a dubious royal ancestry and failing to supervise and answer to his community and traditional elders.

After addressing the accusations before the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace, having served for 41 years as chief, he was declared guilty.
The primary concern with his detooling was his participation in illegal mining operations in the Mpasaaso community, which resulted in the devastation of water bodies.
Traditional leaders have a duty to enforce the law and safeguard the land, and the Asantehene stressed that the chief’s conduct went against customary beliefs.

Several chiefs have recently been destooled by the Manhyia Palace due to their involvement in illegal mining activities.
