Sad News Hit Electoral Commission As Alhaji Amadu Sulley dies

The unexpected death of Alhaji Amadu Sulley, a former Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission, has been revealed by his family.

In the afternoon of March 1, he passed away. Islamic custom dictated that burial rites were performed right away.

The leader of the family has stated that the late Alhaji Sulley will be laid to rest at the Madina Muslim Cemetery today, Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

“Muslim brothers and sisters, friends, and loved ones are cordially invited to take part in his burial processes at his residence and the Madina Muslim Cemetery,” a statement cited by 3news on March 1 indicated.

“Fortunately, Alhaji Amadu Sulley passed away with fasting (1st day of Ramadan). To Allah be the glory May Allah forgive him and grant all our departed souls jannat firdaus,”the statement.

Then-President John Evans Atta-Mills named the late Alhaji Sulley deputy head of the Electoral Commission in 2012.

Before becoming the Deputy Chairperson, he had been the Director of Research Monitoring and Evaluation at the same Commission. For the first time, a career member of the electoral staff was appointed to the position of deputy chairperson, which was Sulley.

Before being fired in June 2018 for allegedly engaging in unlawful vote transfers during the 2016 Ghanaian general election, he formerly held the position of deputy chairman in charge of operations at the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

Amadu Sulley completed his primary education at Accra’s Ghana National School, which is today known as Richard Akwei Memorial School.

He earned credentials at the Ordinary and Advanced levels from Accra Academy and Opoku Ware School, respectively. He went on to study for a diploma in statistics at the University of Ghana, where he graduated in 1985.

At the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, he earned a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Administration in 1993 and a Diploma in Public Administration in 1995. The Ghanaian electoral system was the subject of his project.
