Loan disbursements to 9,433 students at 62 public and private tertiary institutions in Ghana have been authorized by the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).
One of the first significant moves made by Dr. Saajida Shiraz, the SLTF’s acting CEO, after taking office is this decision.
Dr. Shiraz apologized to the students who were impacted by the delay in disbursements and promised that the SLTF will be more deliberate in providing timely financial support under her direction.
She underlined her dedication to making sure deserving Ghanaian university students get the help they require as soon as possible.
She reaffirmed her commitment to President John Dramani Mahama’s plan for a better system of financing higher education and said she has already started the procedures necessary to ensure the SLTF Plus policy is implemented smoothly.
It is anticipated that this strategy will increase student financial aid and boost the fund’s overall efficacy.
When Dr. Shiraz reflected on her first few days in office, she said the previous week was fruitful, full of strategic conversations and important interactions.
She became acquainted with the SLTF personnel, discussed strategies to reposition the fund for more impact, and engaged in discussions on education finance with student leaders at the National Education Forum.
She also visited two zonal offices and the SLTF regional office in Accra, where she spoke with Kojo Danquah, the recently appointed Deputy CEO.
She added that in order to make sure the fund runs in a way that best helps students, the week included making some important public interest interventions.
Students should anticipate better access and service delivery in the upcoming months thanks to Dr. Shiraz’s first efforts, which have set the tone for a more effective and responsive SLTF.
