Nzema Leaders Petition President Mahama for Equitable Leadership Representation in Ghana Gas

The Ultimate Voice of the Western Region has officially submitted a petition to President John Dramani Mahama, advocating for fair representation of Nzemaland in national leadership roles, particularly in the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ghana National Gas Company.

The petition, signed by prominent leaders of the region, emphasized the significant contributions of Nzemaland to Ghana’s oil and gas sector, including its role in securing the nation’s maritime boundary victory against Côte d’Ivoire. The petitioners expressed concern over the continued exclusion of Nzema individuals from leadership positions in critical sectors such as oil and gas.

Highlighting the economic and strategic importance of Nzemaland, the petition urged the President to prioritize the inclusion of qualified Nzema candidates in leadership appointments. The chiefs and opinion leaders of the region have already submitted a list of nominees for the President’s consideration.

The petition also reminded the President of the unwavering loyalty demonstrated by the Nzema people during past elections, urging the government to honor its commitments by ensuring inclusivity and equity in national appointments.

Signed by Anthony Morkeh (President), Patrick Kofi Yankey (Vice President, Economic Affairs), and Bernabeth Ackah Kokochie (General Secretary), the petition reiterated the region’s dedication to national unity and called for immediate action to address historical imbalances.

The leaders remain hopeful that President Mahama will act in favor of their request to reflect the aspirations of the Nzema people in the leadership of Ghana Gas.
