In the 2025 budget, Gideon Boako, the Tano North Member of Parliament, has requested the Mahama administration to do away with the E-Levy and betting tax.
Before Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s budget announcement on Tuesday, March 11, Dr. Boako stressed that Ghanaians anticipate the removal of these levies as well as the COVID-19 and emissions levies.
To compensate for any revenue gaps that might result from the repeal of these taxes, he emphasized the necessity for the government to offer substitutes.
“Every Ghanaian is expecting the E-Levy to be scrapped, we expect betting tax to go. I expect the COVID-19 levy to go and the Emissions levy to go. It is important that the Finance Minister, in scrapping them, should be able to give us the alternative of the revenue shortfalls that may come.
“You cannot tell us that you want to scrap one tax and come up with another, and even more impactful.”
Additionally, Dr. Boako urged the government to provide accurate and verifiable facts in the budget in order to be transparent with Ghanaians.
