John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has once again presented himself as the leader who can turn around Ghana’s struggling economy.
If elected president in the general elections scheduled for December 7, he promises radical reforms and a full economic recovery.
Mahama spoke to enthusiastic audiences in Nadowli and Wichaw on a three-day campaign visit in the Upper West Region, spreading a message of optimism, fortitude, and rebirth.
Mahama described the economic situation as dire, attributing it to what he termed the gross mismanagement of the economy by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the past eight years.
He said that, the NPP’s policies have compounded financial challenges for many Ghanaians, especially the youth, who have been most affected by increased unemployment, stagnating salaries, and a lack of economic possibilities.
“NDC is going to come and fix the economy. So I know a lot of young people are losing hope. A lot of young people say, look, we don’t see any future in this country. And I can understand you. After what has happened these last 8 years, you are justified to lose hope in your country.
“But I stand here as the former president and the incoming president of Ghana to appeal to all the young people. You are my children—many of you are the same age as my sons. I urge you not to lose hope. This country will rise again.”
