Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP Flagbearer’s running mate in the 2024 elections, has responded to the party’s defeat and the results of the 2024 elections.
NAPO, as he is lovingly called, said in a statement on December 11 that the NPP accepted the Ghanaians’ decision and did not anticipate losing the election by such a large majority.
“The 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections resulted in a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This was not the outcome we, in the NPP, envisaged; but we respect the verdict of the Ghanaian people.
“To Ghanaians, we have heard you clearly and with humility we accept. We will work with you to get it right,” he stated.
According to the MP who kept his seat in the Manhyia South constituency, the party would get back together and consider its defeat before determining how to proceed.
NAPO thanked Dr. Bawumia and the party members for the honor of serving as his running mate in the 2024 elections.
“I have had extensive discussions with our flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to reflect on the outcome of the elections and, in good time, we shall reflect further as a political party on the causes of our 2024 election loss.
“I am grateful to HE the Vice-President for nominating me as his running mate, and to the NPP leadership for the overwhelming support I received,” he added.
Many have claimed that Ghanaians’ actual assessment of Akufo-Addo’s governance is reflected in the party’s dismal election defeat.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, however, is optimistic that the party would “emerge stronger, and bounce back to win the trust, confidence, support, and affection of Ghanaians.”
