Basake Holy Stars defender Boniface Blay earns Black Satellites call-up for WAFU Zone B Championship

Basake Holy Stars defender Boniface Blay has been handed a place in Ghana’s Black Satellites squad for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire.

The versatile left-back has been included in head coach Maxwell Konadu’s squad as Ghana’s U-20 national team prepares to compete against some of the best youth sides in the West African region.

Blay’s inclusion comes on the back of his impressive performances for Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League, where he has emerged as one of the club’s most reliable defensive assets.

The 18-year-old joined the Ampain-based club from Musician Kofi Kinaata’s Team Moove FC during the 2023/24 season and has since played a pivotal role in the team’s rise, delivering consistent displays with his defensive awareness, work rate, and attacking support from the left flank.

His call-up to the Black Satellites squad adds another chapter to his football journey and further highlights the growing recognition of his contributions at the domestic level.

The WAFU Zone B tournament will provide Ghana’s U-20 side with a competitive platform to measure their strength against regional opponents while continuing preparations for future international competitions.

For Basake Holy Stars, Blay’s invitation represents another significant achievement for the club, which continues to make strides in developing players capable of earning national team recognition.

The Black Satellites will be aiming for a strong showing in Côte d’Ivoire as they seek to reaffirm Ghana’s status as one of the continent’s leading football nations at the youth level.
