John Dramani Mahama, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer, has disclosed plans to concentrate on developing affordable homes for Ghanaians.

During a meeting with National Tenants Union officials, the former president highlighted that housing is a critical need that his administration will meet. To make sure that no one is left behind, his plan places a special emphasis on providing affordable housing for doctors, teachers, nurses, government employees, and anybody else with a reliable source of income.

Mr Mahama underscored the importance of offering social housing that is truly affordable for ordinary Ghanaians, as opposed to the so-called ‘affordable’ housing options priced in thousands of dollars and out of reach for many.

In addition, the leader of the NDC promised to push the Minority Group in parliament to pursue the Rent Control Bill, which would shield tenants from having to pay more than a year’s rent up front.

Frederick Opoku, the secretary general of the Tenants Union, stated that it is critical that the government attend to the concerns of Ghanaians who rent—roughly 19 million people, in his estimation.

Highlighting his own experiences as a renter and a helper to many persons in rented homes for assistance in paying their rent in advance, Mr. Mahama gave the group his resolute commitment to tackling the housing crisis. According to him, Ghanaians should have optimism for better housing in the future because of his pledges.

According to him, housing is a critical need, and the next NDC administration will address it as part of his legacy as President.
