EC publishes ballot statistics for 2024 election

Ballot data have been released by Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) to inform the printing of ballots for the next presidential and parliamentary elections.

Deputy EC Chairperson Samuel Tettey signed a press release announcing this announcement on Monday, October 14.

Through the release of these crucial facts prior to the polls, this action seeks to guarantee a seamless and effective electoral process.

The Commission clarified that it used the total number of voters listed on the Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR) plus an extra 2% buffer when making its computations.

This policy is meant to ensure that there is a sufficient number of ballots for every qualified voter, taking into consideration any increases in voter turnout and registration.

The EC emphasized that this proactive approach is designed to prevent ballot shortages or discrepancies on election day.

While encouraging full voter participation, the Commission also acknowledged that not all registered voters may ultimately cast their ballots.

“While the Commission welcomes and encourages a total voter turnout on Election Day, it also recognizes that not every registered voter will vote in the 2024 General Election. The Commission is confident that the methodology relied upon, that is utilizing the total number of voters on the PVR plus a two percent increase to guide the printing of ballots, is adequate and will not result in shortfalls or unnecessary wastage. This methodology of adding a percentage increase has been used by the Commission to guide the printing of ballots since 1992.We entreat the Public to trust us to deliver on our mandate” the statement added.
